Juniata College and Mansfield University came together and planned a collegiate fishing tournament on April 7th, 2018 on Spring creek in Milesburg, PA located just outside of State College. A total of 26 people were in attendance which included many other 5rivers clubs such as Pitt Johnstown, Pitt Bradford, Messiah college, Shippensburg University, Edinboro University, York College, and Keystone College.
Was there a connection with the local TU chapter?
We had support from the spring creek chapter of TU and support from the state council of TU for the state of PA. With the help of our states fish and boat we have funding for the next 4 years to come.
What species were targeted and what was the largest fish of the day?
We targeted both browns and rainbows, the largest fish was just over 18”
What fly patterns were producing?
We had a variety of flies that were producing: Caddis dries, wants worms, squirmy worms, and the good old mop fly.
About the tournament?
It worked off the total number of fish caught. The teams were arranged by school with the merging of some of the smaller schools to meet the minimum team number.

Were there tournament prizes?
We gave away prizes to the winners. Those came from TCO Fly shops, Lively Legz, Yeti, and our biggest supporter Syndicate Fly Rods.
Plans to make it an annual tournament?
As of right now there are plans to make the event a yearly thing, especially due to having funding for the next 4 years. It was a huge success and everyone involved wants to see it grow into something much bigger and become a traveling event between schools in the state of PA.
