Charlie Kelsey from University of Central Florida went beyond his 5Rivers requirements and qualified himself as one of our top 5 Costa Ambassadors for the Fall 2017 semester. His 5Rivers club was founded in 2006 and now has over 150 members. Recruitment played a major role this past semester for the UCF Reel Knights, with over 100 members recruited this past semester I’d have to say this club is doing something right! With a club of such a vast size, management is the key factor which this club seems to have down pat. By hosting and being involved in fun events such as fishing tournaments, bowling nights, beginning and end of year parties, camping trips, and home football game tailgates his club is able to keep members involved. Being located in Central Florida this 5Rivers club typically targets redfish and speckled trout on the coast and largemouth bass inland. With fishing boats at their disposal and warm weather, the UCF Reel Knights take full advantage of the year-round fishing opportunities in their region.

When and how you started fly fishing?
My roommate got me outside just throwing a fly around in the backyard a couple years ago.
First fish you caught on the fly rod?
The first fish I caught on a fly rod was a 1/2 lb largemouth bass
Favorite memory fishing?
Getting skunked out in Wyoming with the 5 Rivers crew. I met some awesome people out there and saw some amazing views, can’t wait to experience it again! As for an epic fishing day, my roommate took myself and my outfitter from C&S Whitetails to a pond in Fort Pierce and we caught 118 bass in one day, the biggest being about 8 pounds. (C. Kelsey)
Your plan after college?
I hope to eventually get into the custom sportfish yacht building industry. (C. Kelsey)
5Rivers would like to congratulate Charlie on being a top Costa Ambassador this past semester. If any clubs need advice on recruitment this is the club to ask!
